The RYA Competent Crew course is an essential comprehensive introductory course for beginners to sailing and for those with some experience of sailing dinghy's or keel boats.

What will I learn?

You will learn how to steer the yacht and handle the sails, understand the different parts of the boat, her rigging and sails. You will practice sail handling and using ropes and winches. We will look at personal safety and how to recover a person from the water. During the week we will visit different ports and anchorages where we will practice anchoring and picking up a mooring.  You will also experience sailing at night under the stars. We will look at weather forecasts and understand how the weather influences our plans. We will also look at the rules of the road and the manners and customs associated with sailing a yacht.

What do I get?

You will receive a complimentary RYA logbook and at the end of the course, you will have reached the level required to be a useful member of the crew and you will be awarded the RYA Competent Crew certificate to go in your log book.

What do I need to bring?

The course includes accommodation onboard and all meals and we will send you a copy of our joining instructions when you book.  These tell you what to bring and where our yacht is located in Bunbury

Is there anything I need to do before the course?

The RYA Competent Crew course does not require anything to be done beforehand, but you can buy the RYA Competent Crew Skills handbook as a reference.
