The Oceanwest RYA Yachtmaster (Coastal) Fastrack course is a fantastic way to achieve your qualification. Using Navathome Australia online theory courses allows you to maximise your time here in Australia, doing what you love to do - sail!

Why spend two weeks of your hard earned annual holiday allowance sitting in a classroom, when you can spend the time studying at home, in the months before your Australian sailing adventure begins. You then get 5 solid weeks of sail training, getting you ready to become a Yachtmaster.

In preparation for the 5 weeks of sailing, we supply you with the RYA Dayskipper theory course and RYA Coastal / Yachtmaster theory course. These are run as online programmes using the highly acclaimed Navathome Australia online courses. Oceanwest provides you with everything you need to complete the course and provides instructor support throughout. Each theory course will take about 40 hours of study.

The Oceanwest Yachtmaster Coastal Fastrack course provides an exhilarating mix of training, travel, team work and adventure. It is an intensive course and you will cover all of the core RYA course modules listed below and be awarded each certificate as you achieve the highest standards. You will gain enough sea time and miles to take the RYA Yachtmaster (Coastal) exam during the last weekend.

Our instructors are all extremely experienced skippers who will also act as mentors as you prgress through the course. The number of students on each course is limited so we can adapt the training to suit individual needs.

You will be sailing a 2016 Beneteau Oceanis 41.1, all of your bedding and linen is supplied fresh each week you are onboard. Your meals are supplied during the live aboard courses and we pride ourselves in giving you the best produce available. Joeanne is the (self appointed!) head of catering and you can be sure to enjoy delicious, healthy meals whilst onboard.

RYA Yachtmaster - Commercial Recognition in Australia - More information

AMSA (Australian Maritime Safety Authority) have formally recognised RYA qualifications as acceptable for commercial use in Australian Territorial waters on commercially registered sailing vessels if the holder complies with AMSA Exemption 18. Holders of the RYA Yachtmaster Coastal certificate of competence can act as master on commercial sailing vessels < 12 meters and up to 15 miles from the coast after complying with AMSA Exemption 18.

This recognition is achieved by AMSA EX18 – Marine Safety (Sail) Exemption 2014.
To meet the criteria a person must -
1. Hold a RYA Yachtmaster Coastal or Offshore or Ocean Certificate of Competence
2. Hold an approved first aid certificate
3. Hold a Marine radio licence

4a. Hold an in date RYA or YA sea survival certificate
or
4b. Have completed the Elements of Ship board safety units or the relevant STCW courses

5. Have completed TDMMR3007B — Operate and carry out basic service checks on small vessel marine propulsion systems or MARC005 — operate inboard and outboard motors or

5a. Have completed the RYA Diesel Engine course and
6a. Have completed the YA power boat handling course
or
6b. Have completed the RYA Level 2 powerboat handling course.
7. Make a declaration of medical fitness on the approved form
